Import an AutoCAD drawing
You can import an AutoCAD drawing in software.
In general, here’s how to import: Click Insert > CAD Drawing .
Then select the AutoCAD file, specify the scale and layer options,
and the drawing will appear on the page. If you need more information along the way, this article explains each step of the process.
Supported AutoCAD versions

How Import an AutoCAD drawing
- On the Insert tab , click CAD Drawing .
- Find the file. DWG or. DXF, and then click Open . The CAD Drawing Properties dialog box appears .

If the CAD drawing is extended over the page, it means that the drawing will be larger than the diagram page. If so, do the following:

If the Visio page scale is what you want and you want the AutoCAD file to fit,
click the custom scale . Change the AutoCAD Drawing Scale to accommodate the page. If you are not sure what the result will look like, click Apply before you click OK . This will update the preview image before importing the file.
You can also accept the extended AutoCAD drawing by clicking OK . Then, later, you can truncate the CAD drawing .
5. If necessary, click the Layer tab and change the layer properties.
Then click OK to insert the drawing. You can always unlock and change the properties in the AutoCAD layer later, if you wish.
AutoCAD protection for drawing
By default, AutoCAD drawings are locked to be resized, moved, and deleted.
In fact, you may see the icon locked Lock icon on the edges of the drawing
when you select it. This is because it is meant to be a background over which
the shapes overlap. You can always unlock an CAD drawing if you prefer.
This will allow you to move, resize or delete it. You can also Truncate an AutoCAD drawing if it is too large or turn it into shapes.
